What happened:
Police find 66-year-old Robert Rutledge dead in his Shepherd Hills apartment after a neighbor sees blood leading from the door. He suffers obvious injuries, perhaps from a knife. The apartment is ransacked, according to court documents. After the homicide, two suspects, Gary Toney Jr. 19, and Javonte Davis, 17, lead police on a lengthy chase in the victim's stolen truck and injure two bystanders during a shootout with police. Both are arrested and charged.
